Rules Governing Internship
Training Programme
for Final Year pass out B.U.M.S.
Candidates under the Faculty
of Ayurved and Unani
The Unani education should aim at producing competent physicians and surgeons of profound knowledge having extensive practical training based on Unani fundamentals with scientific knowledge of modern advances who can take up responsibilities in the medical and health services and can be actively involved in family welfare and National Health Programmes.
PRE-DEGREE COMPULSORY
INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
FOR B.U.M.S.
COURSE
AIMS
:
After passing
final B.U.M.S. examination every student will be required to
undergo the compulsory
and rotational internship up
to the satisfaction of
the head of the institution. A graduate of Unani medicine and
surgery thoroughly studied the science of
Unani, is expected to work as clinical observer and conduct
actual clinical procedures of medical
and health sciences
under the close
and direct supervision of their teachers
as to acquire the optimum skill of dexterity. The period
and scheme of internship is specifically designed to establish
these professional skills
of medical graduates, in
Unani.
OBJECTS
:
1. Training of the Internees during the period of Internship shall be
regulated by the Principal and the Superintendent or Incharge of the Hospital
where an intern undertake her internship.
2. The Internee shall be entrusted with the clinical responsibilities
under the control and supervision of Senior Medical Officers only.
3. The internee should be given as much as possible clinical work in
each department.
4. The training in the Hospital shall include case taking evaluation
of symptomatology, investigations made therefore, the differential diagnosis,
arriving at diagnosis and the management especially through Unani.
GENERAL RULES:
1. A student
passing final B.U.M.S. examination will
not be entitled
to receive the degree
without completion
of the internship.
2. The
Dean/ Principal of concerned Unani College shall be responsible for proper
implementation of internship programme
as per 'Appendix-A.'
The Principal / Dean of the college shall have to monitor
internship Training Programme in
collaboration with superintendent /Deputy superintendent /R.M.O. of attached
hospital alongwith all head of concerned departments. The Principal /Dean of college
may appoint a Teacher, preferably a teacher of Hifzan-e-Sehat. Department to
monitor the work of interns only at
Primary Health Centres.
3. This scheme
of internship shall
be implemented by
all Unani Colleges affiliated to
the MUHS Nashik
meticulously after passing
Third B.U.M.S. examination December 2005
within 07 days
from the date of
declaration of result.
4.
Immediately after the declaration of the
results of Final B.U.M.S. by
University, the successful students
should submit their
application along with
passport size photograph
for the
purpose of identity card
to the Dean/Principal of
college.
5. After
receiving the application
from student , the Dean
/Principal of concerned
College shall appoint them on first
come first served basis at the hospital attached to the College. It is the
right of Dean/Principal to decided
the quota/ number of internees
to be accommodated at attached
hospital , when it is not possible to accommodate all students then the
remaining students will be appointed
to Primary Health
Center or/and at Civil /Rural hospital
by
Dean/Principal as per scheme.
6. The Dean /Principal shall
display the list
of students appointed to
attached hospital /PHC/and
civil /Rural Hospital within
seven days after
the declaration of
result by University.
7.
Before issuing
appointment letter the
Dean /Principal shall conduct 3 days orientation workshop
to orient the
internees to get
acquainted with the details
and rules of internship training Programme. This orientation ‘‘workshop shall cover the process
of registration, medico-legal issues, ethical-issues ,
public relation issues, health programme and national health policy , patient management along with emergency
care. It shall be mandatory for internee to attend orientation workshop of the
period of 3 days shall be include in the period of one year of internship. In
work shop copy of intern workbook duly certificate by dean / principle should
be distributed to interns .The interns shall have to pay the cost of workbook
toward Principal Office.
The cost of workbook will be such as may prescribed by college.
8. After getting appointed order the internee should join immediately
to the respective attached hospital /PHC/Civil hospital /Rural hospital, which
is allotted to him by authority. The copy of joining report should be sent
immediately to the Dean/principle through superintendent /RMO/Chief M.O of
hospital.
9. After joining the internship, within 15 days, every intern should
get himself provisionally registered from Maharashtra Council of Indian
Medicine, Mumbai as per section 18-A of M.M.P. act, 1961 and submit the Xerox
copy of certificate to Dean/ Principal Office.
10. A muster roll must be kept for attendance of internee by hospital
authority and monthly record of
attendance along with leave record should be forward to Dean/Principal of
college at the end of every
month.
11. Every internee shall be under administrative and disciplinary
control of the hospital where he is appointed.
He shall obey the rules, regulations, conversions and practice of hospital in
force and code of conduct laid
down by Govt /University/ College /C.C.I.M from time to time.
In case of breach of code of conduct\rules by a intern,
concerned authority of hospital shall take any
disciplinary action including disqualification to continue further internship
programme or any other lesser
punishment which may he thinks fit.
12. No intern shall remain absent from his\her hospital duties without
prior permission from HOD\RMO\Chief
M.O.\Superintendent of the hospital.
13. LEAVE: - Every
intern is entitled to avail total 12 days casual leave (not more than 3days at
a time) during twelve-month period of
internship.
The leave other than C.L. will not be
admissible. Any leave in excess of above rule or absence from the work on any ground should be treated, as
absence and the intern shall have to complete
the required attendance as a repeat day.
Internees cannot avail casual leave without
intimation to Dean \Principal of the college, in
emergency interns should intimate within 24 hours, with supporting reasons to
the Dean\Principal.
14. Working hours for interns are to be not less than 8 hours per day.
He can avail weekly off\Sunday and
national \Govt. holidays permissible to hospital with prior permission of Hospital Authority. As per the requirement
of hospital the concerned authorities may allot shift rotation duties along with night duties to interns.
15. The internee shall be
entrusted for clinical responsibilities under direct supervision of Teacher\ H.O \ Registrar \ H.O.D \ M.O. of
hospital, they shall not work independently as a medical practitioner, they shall not issue nor sign any
certificate or medico-legal document, but the
internee will be required to carry out any selective assignment if given to him
by teachers \ HOD \M.O.
16. It shall be compulsory for intern to maintain the record of
procedures done \observed \assisted by
him\her on day today basis in prescribed workbook. After completion of
internship the workbook dully
filled in all respects and certified from concerned authority should be
submitted to Dean \Principal.
Failure to produce workbook may result in cancellation of his\her performance in any or all disciplines
of internship.
17. STIPEND: - The stipend will be
paid by Dean \Principal of the College, only to those interns who are eligible to get stipend from
College as per rules made on this behalf by State Government at the sanctioned by State Govt. from time to
time, as applicable.
18. On satisfactory completion of internship Programme, the Dean \ Principal,
of concerned college shall forward a
certificate as per ‘Appendix-B to the University. The University in turn will issue the ‘Final Internship Completion
Certificate’ to the intern. After obtaining this certificate the interns may apply for Permanent
Degree Certificate to University and for permanent Registration Certificate to M.C.I.M., Mumbai.
19. TRANSFER
OF INTERNEE TO OTHER COLLEGES: -
The student desirous of transfer to another college for doing
internship training programme may apply
within 15 days from the date of declaration of final year result to the
University in the prescribed form
alongwith the fee prescribed by the University from time to time.
A)
Colleges affiliated to MUHS:
I.
As per CCIM Regulation
of BUMS, Internee shall be permitted to complete all parts of internship at approved / recognized Unani
College.
II.
The student will have
to apply for NOC to Parent College and also where he/she wants to get
internship transferred.
As per the Academic Council Resolution No. 446/2008 dated 28/12/2007:
A)
There shall be a reservation of 2% for
regular batch and 1% for odd batch (fraction more than or equal to 0.5 be
rounded to next higher integer) to the following cases, taking into
consideration the merit in that category.
(1) Serious
and/or illness of prolonged nature of the student.
(2) Serious and/or illness of prolonged nature of
mother and / or father (in case of married candidate, the case of husband /
wife shall be considered).
The candidate has to submit all medical records (all prescription and investigation reports, any other relevant documents) duly attested and medical certificates from Civil Surgeon / Medical Superintendents / Dean of Govt. Medical College.
However, if concerned committee does not found eligible candidate under this category, then all the transfers will be considered on the basis of merit and total vacancy (i.e. 15% of total students, appearing for the final year examination for both Odd and Regular Batch).
B)
After cut-off date and within three
months following the date of declaration of result, if the candidate apply on
the ground mentioned in Resolution Number 1 para – a (1), (2) and death of
mother and / or father, (in case of married candidate, the death of husband /
wife shall be considered), then one seat per College (Relieving and Receiving) per
batch to be considered. In view of the medical documents and the certificate issued
from the Civil Surgeon / Medical Superintendant / Dean of Govt. Medical College
submitted by the candidate, the decision in this regards shall be taken by the
same internship transfer committee.
C)
No applications shall be considered after
three months following the date of declaration of result.
D)
The candidate has to complete current
posting in the parent College before joining the receiving College
E)
The validity of NOCs submitted by the
applicant will remain valid for that batch up to 03 months from the date of
declaration of result.
F)
Internship transfer is allowed only one
time for a candidate.
G)
However, in addition to above all
categories, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor will have power of granting internship
transfer to deserving candidate in special circumstances.
III.
The parent college
will forward the application with NOC to Maharashtra University of Health
Sciences, Nashik and the University authority will finalize the cases strictly
on the basis of the merit.
IV.
The college in which
the internee is transferred will have to complete the programme as per the
guidelines including skill test/performance.
V.
The parent institution
will then receive the Internship Completion Certificate from that college and
will forward the same to Maharashtra University of Health Science for
University Internship Completion Certificate.
B) Colleges outside the
jurisdiction of MUHS:
I.
NOC from both
relieving and receiving colleges shall be obtained by the candidate.
II.
The application
alongwith the NOC’s will be forward to MUHS or getting permission to allow the
internship completion at colleges outside the jurisdiction of this University.
III.
The concerned college
will issue Internship Attendance Certificate mentioning the quantum of work
done department wise as per proforma of MUHS and it will be submitted by the
internee to Parent College.
IV.
The parent College
will assess the skills by conducting skill performance tests as per guidelines
of internship.
V.
After successful completion
of skill tests, internship completion certificate will be issued by the parent
College and it will be forwarded to MUHS for award of degree.
C) Merit to be considered :
The application for transfer of internees shall be considered and decided strictly on the basis of merits as follows:
I.
Aggregate marks
obtained at Final B.U.M.S. Examination.
II. Number of attempts at Final B.U.M.S. Examination.
1 % marks will be deducted per attempt from aggregate marks of final B.U.M.S.
In case of tie, combined marks of I,II& III B.U.M.S. to be considered.
III. Elder to be preferred over younger.
20. Notwithstanding any thing contained in this scheme the University
reserves the right to alter the rules or
to make amendment in rules\ Scheme or to take any action, as may think fit in
this respect without assigning any
reason or justification for it.
Appendix– ‘A’
DURATION –12MONTH
SCHEDULES-FOUR
1. SCHEDULE ‘A’ -orientation workshop –Duration 3 days
2. SCHEDULE ‘B’ -Duration 5month &27 days. This scheduled shall be completed by rotation at attached unani hospital to concerned college.

Centre (As per procedure prescribed by D.D/D.H.O)
4. SCHEDULE ‘D’ - Duration 3 Months at casualty Department of Medical College / District Hospital / R.H. / C.H. / Municipal or Corporation Hospital as per the instructions and permission given by Medical Education and Drug Department, Govt. of Maharashtra – G.R. No. UMC/1005/1231/CR-

DETAIL GUIDELINES FOR TRANING PROGRAME
1) SCHEDULES - ‘A’ – Orientation
workshop for the duration of 3 days should be carried out before starting the
internship training programme and it is compulsory to all interns.
2) SCHEDULES - ‘B’ - While
working as per this scheduled each intern shall have to maintain a detail
record of 150 History Sheets, during his/her internship duly signed by the
teacher/medical officer concerned. The record shall be complete in all respect
such as chief complaint, History taking, clinical examination, investigation,
evaluation of symptomatology and, treatment and follow ups. Internee should be
familiar with working of maintaining various register of hospital.
DEPATMENT OF
HIFZAN-E-SEHAT
(Tahaffuzi-wa-Samaji
Tibb)
Duties of the internees in the department of hifzan-e-sehat for one months is divided in three sub schedule: A,B&C mentioned as below:
A. Duties of rotating internship in preventive and Diagnostic measurement of “Amraze-Mota-addiya,” “Naqs-e-Taghziya” and Vaccintion.
B. Survey of Environmental Hazards’ Sonitatory Measurement, Water supply, Family planning, General Health Awarenees Body Improvement through Dalk, Hammam and Riyazat.
C. Duties of rotating internship in college hospital/public health center/District govt. hospital for attending Medico legal cases, Postmortem Examination and get training to issue the medical certification.
All internees will have to strictly perform their duties particularly and regularly under each scheduled for the period of 10 days rotatory Programme of Internship which will be as following
