Subject: Unfair Means - Revealing Of Identity Awareness To
Deans / Principals / Supervisory Staff And Students

Abnormal increase in number of revealing identity cases in the answer books by the students is alarming and needs to be curtailed. Therefore, it is essential to educate the supervisory staff and the students for awareness by the Deans / Principals who are requested to kindly give wide publicity to this Notification.

Notification No. 21/2005

1) The definition unless the context otherwise requires of 'Revealing of Identity' as given under Section 65.3 of the Ordinance 1/2002 (Amended) is quoted below :-
"REVEALING OF IDENTITY IN ANY FORM IN THE ANSWER WRITTEN OR IN ANY OTHER PART OF THE ANSWER BOOK BY THE STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE OR INSTITUTION EXAMINATION."
2) The definition of Revealing of Identity has been further elaborated in the special instruction to candidates on B & C SECTIONS OF ANSWERBOOKS, HALL TICKETS as well as in the POSTER which is being displayed at every examination centre as under :-
"Do not reveal your identity in any form in the answers written by you or in any other part of the answer book. Writing your number or name or putting your signature is revelation of identity. Use of religious invocations or any writing that is not relevant to the answers outside or inside of the body of the answer books will be treated as attempt to reveal identity."
3) Some examples of revealing identity resorted to by the students in the answerbooks during the recently concluded examinations are enumerated as under for your information :-
  a)  
  b) Writing name and Signing in the place provided for examiner.
  c) Making circles and rectangles around the titles/sub titles.
  d) Canceling the matter and writing 'Sorry for canceling' remark below.
  e) Change of handwriting.
  f) Change of ink colour (pen) unless otherwise required (without the consent of supervisor).
4) On detection of the revealing identity cases the matter will be reported to the University Unfair Means Enquiry Committee for enquiry and recommendation of punishment. And based on the merit of each case and recommendation of Unfair Means Enquiry Committee the Board of Examinations will give their final decision.
5) After award of the punishment the students start appealing for review of their cases on the plea that their act was 'unintentional' or 'inadvertent' etc.
6) In view of the above , all the Deans/Principals of the colleges are requested to educate all the teachers, (supervisory staff) and the students about the serious implications if resorted to revealing identity in any form as explained in para 04 above.
7) In future no appeal from the Dean/Principal of the colleges or students for review of cases of revealing identity will be entertained and necessary action as stipulated in Section 65.12.13 of the Ordinance 1/2002 (Amended) will be initiated against the defaulters. This Ordinance states following punishment.
" Annulment of the performance of the student at the University or College or Institution examination in full."
